We are very happy to have been interviewed by Lucie and Gabin, from the podcast Les Plongeurs Padawan, and by their dad Christophe, as part of our monitoring of the bottlenose dolphins of Tiputa, in Rangiroa. A huge thank you to them for their rich and relevant questions and for the investigation, editing, and writing work carried out to complete this project!
Diving among wild dolphins is a dream for many enthusiasts of the underwater world. Who has never imagined swimming alongside these intelligent, curious, and fascinating creatures? Yet, these encounters, as wonderful as they may be, raise important questions. How can we ensure that our presence underwater does not negatively impact these animals? How can we distinguish a true natural interaction from a behavior conditioned by poorly regulated tourism practices?
In this podcast episode, Les Plongeurs Padawan hosted Pamela Carzon, a doctor in ethology, who conducted a thesis on interactions between divers and bottlenose dolphins in Rangiroa, French Polynesia. Her work provides essential insights for adopting a more responsible, ethical, and sustainable approach when encountering marine mammals.
